Students' English Holiday Club
more than just a language holiday...

Lessons at our Centre
Your learning success, despite being on holiday, depends on your personal effort and commitment.

Participants who use English actively during the day, whether it is with the host family, learning to play cricket or even while shopping  are those who will make the best progress during our courses. Of course formal lessons provide a base on which to learn grammar, punctuation and spelling, but in order to communicate – the real test of a language – you need to use your English in everyday situations away from the classroom… “Learning by Doing”. One needs to be self disciplined not to speak in ones mother tongue, but we know that it is possible. Over 30 years of organising language course has proven it to us.

An effective language course needs to focus on trying to use English in all activities. Nobody is expecting a beginner to hold high level conversation, but simply to use the language that they already know, in situations when they can see the relevance and importance of understanding and using a foreign language.

The main focus of the SEHC language course is for participants to activate their English for everyday situations, and to improve the fluency and understanding of all participants. We like to see this as complimentary to English classes from school- not by repeating work already learnt, but by building on what participants already know – giving it a real relevance, seldom possible in normal school life.

The success of our courses to participants is clear. On return to their home countries we receive many letters from participants thanking us for the stay, and how they have seen a real improvement in fluency, understanding and ability in the English language.
