“A little something” for

To travel to England, it is necessary for participants to have a valid Identity card (EU citizens) or Passport. Do not forget to check when your passport expires, to be sure that it will be valid for your holiday. Once in England, passports should be left with the host family or in the church safe, as it is not a requirement in England to carry such papers on you.
In cases of sickness the National Health Service is available to free to holiday makers from the EU. It is strongly advisable to obtain form E111 from your own country to avoid having to pay for treatment in advance, and then claim it back on return. For children (under 18), charges for prescriptions may be waived.
“A little something” for your host family
To bring a small present for your host family is sure way to make a good impression on your arrival. You do not need to bring such a gift, but if you choose to it is always nice to bring something typical from your own region or home town for the family to remember you by.
We do not set rules about the amount of pocket money participants should bring, but we would like to remind parents that the cost of living in England is relatively higher than in other EU countries. Host families are required to provide students with lunch, but on a long day out, most students find it hard not to visit a McDonalds for an extra snack or two during their stays.
Although all items on the programme are paid for, we try to offer optional extras to the students to make their stay more enjoyable. This might include a boat trip or a visit to a museum or theatre as well as optional weekend trips, where participants will be asked to contribute to the costs. Please read Optional Extras for further information.
We recommend that you provide a fixed amount in advance to your children for their stay at your own discretion, plus a reserve for emergencies. We are happy to provide the use of our safe to the participants to keep their money and valuables (including passports). For parents who would like money kept aside for optional visits or other special reasons please read Optional Extras for further information.
The travel costs for this holiday are not included in the price, and there are several possible alternative ways to get to Camberley. Most student groups choose to fly to England for their course, and collection from Heathrow airport in London (about 30 minutes from Camberley) is included in the course booking fees.
If you wish to travel to England by bus or train, we will be pleased to help you with your travel arrangements. SEHC is also able to offer collection from France (Calais) where we will take you back to Camberley through the Eurotunnel. If you prefer to fly to England, we would be pleased to assist in booking flights for your stay in England, to try and make sure that people flying from the same airports are able to arrive and be met together at Heathrow.
SEHC in England will be informed of all arrival/departure information, and will arrange a representative to meet participants at the arrivals exit gate, immediately after luggage collection and passport control or (for non-flyers) at an agreed meeting point. The representative will be holding an SEHC banner. It is requested that all participants also wear their SEHC stickers obviously, so that we can find them quickly and easily.
Those who are flying, remember
to check-in at least one hour before your flight leaves. If you are going
to be arriving on a later or earlier flight than that you have given, please
phone our office in England to inform them of the change as soon as possible.
This will avoid unnecessary delays for other participants arriving on other
flights, allowing us to reschedule our pick up times better.
Please make sure that you are able to carry your own luggage and, if you are flying, that it does not exceed the airline’s weight limit- written on your ticket. If you are on the weight limit (around 20kg), don’t forget your hand luggage. Small but heavy items could be carried in a small rucksack if necessary. (Please note that many discount airlines liek Ryanair only offer 15kg luggage- so check first!)
Most host families have their own washing machines, and expect to wash clothes for participants during their visit. It is also sensible to bring clothes for warm and cooler days as well as a waterproof jacket for the rain. Shoes in which you can walk all day on an excursion are essential.
Please use a robust case or travel bag which is clearly marked with your name and address on it. You can always put one of the SEHC stickers on to make it easily recognisable when you collect it.
You may wish to bring a bible in your own language with you. English bibles will be available to borrow from SEHC, and to purchase at discounted prices if you wish. You may also like to bring song books or sports equipment with you, although we do have some examples available to borrow.
